Maria Bennewe Hilton

by

Maria Bennewe was born in November 1698. She was the first daughter born to the marriage of Albany-area residents Pierre and Hendrickie Van Schoonhoven Bennewe.

In December1726, she married Albany native Richard Hilton at the Albany Dutch church. By 1740, seven children had been christened in the Albany church where she was a frequent baptism sponsor - perhaps into the 1750s.

These Hiltons lived in Albany's first ward either with or next to Richard's brother.

Maria Bennewe Hilton may have been alive and thus was accounted for in her husband's Albany household on the census of 1790. Richard Hilton died in 1795 at the age of ninety-seven.
