Margaret Adams Barrington
Margaret Adams was christened on April 27, 1760 at St. Peter's Anglican church. She was the daughter of Albany residents James and Margaret Hegaman Adams. However, her father died in 1762 - leaving her among his heirs. She was left a female slave and a monetary bequest as well.
By 1782, she had become the second wife of Albany widower Lewis Barrington. By 1792, the marriage had produced five children.
These Barringtons made their home in the second ward. Lewis Barrington died in 1797 leaving Margaret a widow in her mid-thirties. However, on the census taken in 1800, she does not appear to have been the head of an Albany household.
